One of my favorite parts about my job is getting to hear about the connection between a couple.  Hearing how two people met for the first time is so much fun… it’s like previewing a little romantic comedy each time.

For Xiao & Maggie, they met in college in Texas… in a yoga class!  Before you giggle at that thought, gym was a graduation requirement.  It just so happened that these two ended up in the same class and I think they’re more than a little grateful for the required course ;)

Eventually, these two moved to New York City and started their life together there.  It only made sense that Xiao would propose in one of the most romantic parts of the city — Central Park!

Xiao planned the perfect guise — convincing Maggie to give their friends a tour of the iconic park.  Having just sprained her ankle recently, Maggie was a little less than thrilled to be walking so far.  Xiao’s big surprise was almost interrupted by a certain woodland creature but thankfully Maggie was convinced to keep going.  With friends there to capture the big moment Maggie said yes to Xiao’s proposal.. before he could finish asking ;) Talk about excitement!  (Who can blame her!)

To celebrate this season of engagement, we decided to photograph them in Meridian Hill Park.  Maggie chose Meridian Hill Park as a nod to their wedding venue. They’re getting married at the Evergreen Museum and Library next May, and after spending the evening with them, I couldn’t be more excited!

Coming in from out of town meant that we really only had one day to set aside for the shoot!  With the weather lately being so unpredictable, we were a little nervous when a 90% chance of rain popped up during our allotted time.  Thankfully, the weather was wrong and we had the perfect weather for the evening with a little sunshine even popping through!   See that glow-y light? Photoshoots are the only time I’m thankful for humidity!

Needless to say, I absolutely loved my time with Xiao & Maggie.  There is no shortage of laughter with these two.  It’s the best thing! I cannot wait to see these two again next May!

Enjoy a few of my favorites from their Meridian Hill Park engagement session.

Wife, mama, wielder of light & joy, and capturer of moments.  I thrive off of conversation and genuine connection.  In between wrangling our kiddos, and hanging my husband, you'll find me dreaming up my next idea or creative endeavour.  It's these things that culminate to give my imagery a warmth and joy to them - the greatest compliment I could receive.

I was pretty nervous about being photographed and Lauren made everything fun and flexible. Honestly, I can't imagine the day without her and her team. They were wonderful and hearing from Lauren was always a genuine delight.
