I was in the car listening to a podcast, when the host quoted someone and said something along the lines of —

“If you don’t celebrate the small wins, you’ll never be able to celebrate the big ones either.”

… and it hit me, that as I was en route to celebrate this couple at their Jersey City waterfront engagement session — there was a time that I could’ve only dreamed of this.

Getting to travel, meeting an incredible couple, spending the evening photographing them… it’s truly a dream come true!  A small win, filled with delight, that I’m not going to pass by without celebrating.

I’ll be forever grateful for the places my job takes me but most importantly the people I get to meet.

Ben & Jenny… they’re no exceptions!

These two are the sweetest hosts and I loved getting to watch them interact, laugh together, and show off their little sliver of the city.

They originally met out on the town in Manhattan but have since moved just across the Hudson to take in the epic skyline vantage point each day.  As they commute in for work, they often hop on the ferry and so it only made sense to include this regular voyage as a part of our time together.

After grabbing a few portraits in NYC waiting for our return boat (I mean, isn’t spring in New York just a dream!?), we walked a bit and grabbed dinner.  We could take in the skyline and Ben’s favorite time of day: blue light hour.  By the time we finished the most delicious meal, it was dark out and the city was lit up perfectly behind them.

I couldn’t help but say.. “guys, I think we should just take a few more!” and I’m so glad we did! Look at those cuties in front of the magical city that connected them both.

To say that I can’t wait for their wedding celebration with Sara Reynolds next spring would be an understatement.  It’s going to be an incredible celebration of two incredible people!

… but until then, I hope you’ll enjoy a peek at this gorgeous Jersey City waterfront engagement session.

I was pretty nervous about being photographed and Lauren made everything fun and flexible. Honestly, I can't imagine the day without her and her team. They were wonderful and hearing from Lauren was always a genuine delight.
