They gathered up their books and tucked themselves under my desk.  In a rare circumstance their bickering subsided for a moment, and they played together under foot.

Perhaps this is the magic of motherhood — the moments that make some of the harder stuff all worthwhile.  It’s a mental picture that I hope I get to hold onto forever.. their closeness and tenderness towards each other.  To no surprise to mothers everywhere, play time together rarely goes so smoothly (especially while I’m working!).

In fact, the month of February could be categorized by the phrase my friend uses to describe the “magically mundane.”  In normal life, it would have been filled with the regular winter doldrums, but instead, our February was filled with little celebrations along the way:

• Morgan spent the beginning of the month in Whistler, Canada skiing up a storm and chasing our nephews through “pow pow” in Seattle upon his return.
• Valentine’s Day was met with little balloons and homemade Valentine’s for the kids… (and a really delicious dinner for Morgan and I later!)
• Of course you already know about our big girl turning 5.  I’ll save the sappiness for this post.
• Plus, this February included Leap Day.  Which, I happened to spend on my way to Mexico.

All in all there was a lot worth celebrating, but even more so, I love looking back on all the other moments in between.

Because sometimes bath times are just as magical.
