Well friends, it’s officially the Monday after Easter. That means I’ve probably said “Hoppy Easter” a few too many times, eaten way too much food, and had way too much fun dressing up our girl for her first holiday. I mean, springtime is just the best!
For me, Easter became more than a holiday about rabbits a long time ago. It’s about the incredible gift and sacrifice that God sent for us through his Son.
I remember asking one of my best friends on her first Easter since having her first babe, “does it change Easter for you, having a baby now?”
She said, “absolutely.”
Thinking back, I think I appreciated the notion but couldn’t understand it. Until yesterday. Thinking about how much I love Reese (and we’ve only had 2 months together!), and then sending her away from us, to be tortured and tormented… I can’t imagine the pain that God felt watching it all unfold. And yet, He did it because He loves and cares for us. He’s a compassionate God, even when the world around us seems so broken.
So of all the holidays that could have been Reese’s first, I’m glad she got to celebrate this one first. It’s such a beautiful reminder of all the things I want her to learn as she grows up — to love people even when it’s hard. As much as I love her little rabbit outfits that her grandmother and aunt bought her, what I’m most excited for, is to get to teach her all about what matters most.
Here’s hoping that you spent Easter celebrating with the people you love, no matter what you believe! <3
