Writing a birthday post for Sully always feels a little sad. I don’t know if it’s because he’s our only boy, but gosh, I’m just not ready for him to grow up.
I know that it just keeps getting better and better.
I somehow fall more and more in love with my kids as I watch them go through life.
But buddy, you are growing up too fast and it’s happening right in front of my eyes. This next year has lots of big kid things coming and I know you’re going to take it on like a champ!
However, there are some things I don’t want to forget about you *right now*:
- The way your hand feels when it grabs mine
- How it sounds when you call me mama <3
- The giggle you make when you crack yourself up
- That despite your mother being a photographer, you most closely resemble Chandler Bing on the first photo attempt!
- The way you want to be just like your dad. You’re his shadow and you’re pretty lucky you have such a great example to look up to!
- The tenderness you show your sisters, especially Nora. Big brotherhood looks so sweet on you.
You are equal parts ridiculous and tender. You love so well. You are our resident Olaf, the very best brother, the prince of charm, and obsessed with anything on wheels. We’re incredibly lucky that you are ours.

Happy Birthday, Sullivan James.

To paint just one more picture of who Sully is… the other day we were sitting in the kitchen. Somehow, in a span of about 10 minutes he fell on three different occasions. (Typical, haha!)
Me: “What is happening, bud!?”
Him: “Mama, I don’t know! It’s my first time being five!”
His heart is so pure and so sweet – unless one of his sisters (ahem, Quinn) steals his monster trucks ;)
