Welcome to the place that I will share all of my photography and creative outbursts with you! I feel like it’s appropriate to to introduce myself to you and tell you my story. It all started with the purchase of my first SLR. My parents had gotten me a point and shoot camera for Christmas, and instead exchanged it for my Nikon DSLR-3100 as my graduation, Christmas, and birthday present. The day I got it, I couldn’t put it down. My camera led to many experiments, (mainly on automatic I’m sad to admit) and lots and lots of deleting. I shot all summer, until it was time for me to head to school.
Indiana University of Pennsylvania was going to be my new home starting August 30, 2011. I went to school with Speech Pathology as my major, because if you know me at all, you know that I’m a people person, and it just seemed to fit. I thought I had it all figured out.
As I got ready to leave for school, I began to worry about the decision I had made. With Indiana drawing closer, and Maryland getting farther, I REALLY started to doubt myself. This led to Divine intervention… and when I say Divine intervention, I mean it literally happened.
I was sitting in my first class for Speech Pathology, just an introductory class to Communication Disorders, and my teacher was droning on about something. My teacher was talking but I couldn’t focus on a word she was saying. That’s right, I lost her on the first day! I don’t think I’ve ever felt so stupid in my life… I take that back, my stupidest moment is yet to come, just wait for it! I couldn’t think of what to do, so why not pray, right? Well, God certainly answered me!
God spoke to me so loudly, I looked around to see if anyone else had heard. Crazy, I know! He basically said, “what the heck are you doing here? This is NOT what I have planned for you! Hello?! Remember that gift that people keep telling you that you have? Why didn’t you listen all summer?”
I dropped out of that class the next day.
Typing that now, sounds so funny, but its what happened. I decided on the first day of class that I was ready to go home, but I’m a stubborn girl, so I stuck it out for one semester.
That semester was great; I found great friends and I learned a lot about myself. I also, seeing as I am not your typical college student, had lots of time to try and really learn my camera. Plus, my friends let me take lots of photos of them to start my portfolio. (Thanks Megan, Krista, and Lexi!!)
That leads up to where I am now. I’m a student at Howard Community College studying to get my degree in Photography and launching my business as a wedding and portrait photographer.
You’ll probably be seeing plenty of this little girl and her beautiful sister on the blog!! Speaking of people that’ll be on the blog, Becca will probably make her fair share of appearances!
Lauren! The pictures are absolutely beautiful! God has given you an unique eye and I am so excited to see where this leads you!
I am going to be on here a lot!! Love the photos and especially the photographer!!
Hi Lauren, I found your website through Katelyn James’ page and am excited to see someone starting out, just like me. Sometimes things get overwhelming and I forget that I’m not alone in this intimidating industry. It’s nice to see others following their passions.
