Well friends, as of last week, I’ve officially been going without Instagram past 8:30pm for three whole months with little exception (hey, we all know that I’m not perfect). I started this challenge because I realized that it was really easy for me to waste away so much time at night – scrolling, wanting, and comparing. What I should have been doing, was snuggling up with my husband, curling up with a good book, or catching up on a show without “multi-tasking” on my phone too!
Overall I’m so excited to say that this has been a pretty successful challenge.
There are a few down sides that I’ve learned though, too! One thing that I am a little sad about, is how easy it was for me to replace Instagram scrolling with Facebook scrolling instead! There’s just something to that scroll, huh?
I also found that because I chose to not check Instagram at night, I was more excited to “see what I missed” the next morning, which meant I started my day off catching up on a ton of posts…. Not the most productive way to kick-start my morning!
So I’ve made a few amendments to my challenge:
No Instagram or Facebook after 8:30pm.
No social media within the first hour that I get up!
What do you think? Is this something that you feel like could benefit you, too? I’d love to hear what your strategies are to stop that social-media-time-sucking game!
