It Takes Time The Best Advice I Could Give

Santa Barbara California Fine Art Photographer

This post is for you, the girl that feels like she’s stuck in between doing something she loves and doing something she hates.  This is for the photographer who isn’t booking the clients that they want.  This is the hardest advice to swallow, but it all takes time.  The people who know me best know that patience is just not my virtue.  I have been known from time to time to say, “Yeah, patience is a virtue but not one that I’ve acquired yet!”

Friends who feel like they’re struggling in this stage of their business, I’m giving you permission to have patience.  Just because you don’t have the number of clients you want or maybe any right now, doesn’t mean that you’re not good and it doesn’t mean that you will fail at this.  The best thing that you can do is work on your craft and network.  Be nice to people!  Comment on their posts and make them feel special and loved (Granted please be authentic about this because leaving comments that don’t sound completely real will have the opposite effect that you want)!  Ask to be an assistant or a second photographer for people that you look up to!  You would be so surprised what can happen if you do those things and work your butt of!

Friends, if you would have told me this time last year that I would have the amazing clients that I have today, I might have laughed in your face.  It was then that I was feeling incredibly discouraged and secretly wondering if I should give up.  But I didn’t.  I waited, and God has provided for me in ways that make my jaw drop to the floor.

The best advice I could give to anyone is that it takes time, and never compare your plan to someone else’s, because it will never line up exactly!

  17. This is wonderful, Lauren! It’s something I’m having to remind myself of every single day — good things take time. Building a business takes time. Building a business that will LAST takes time. Thank you for this reminder that I can get there some day…I just need to give it time. :)

Wife, mama, wielder of light & joy, and capturer of moments.  I thrive off of conversation and genuine connection.  In between wrangling our kiddos, and hanging my husband, you'll find me dreaming up my next idea or creative endeavour.  It's these things that culminate to give my imagery a warmth and joy to them - the greatest compliment I could receive.

Lauren grew up spending her summers at the shore, and when she and Nick got together, she couldn't help but introduce him, too!  Their session in New Jersey was filled with gorgeous light, sweet smiles, and so much love & laughter.
