Hi sweet friends! Today I am sharing with you the part two of the mini series I’ve been writing about workflow! In case you missed part one, I share about my process for photographing an engagement shoot. You can view part one of the workflow series here. Anyways, on to today’s topic: the wedding day workflow! I hope that this is helpful to y’all and as always, if you have any other questions about it, please shoot me an email at lauren@laurenrswann.com!
Before the wedding:
- First, I contact my bride with a wedding day questionnaire. This is a tool I use to gather all of the details I need for the wedding day. This includes things like addresses, ceremony restrictions and details, and important phone numbers of who to contact on the day of the wedding.
- After I gather the information in the wedding day questionnaire, I go over the timeline once again to make sure we’re all on the right page and remind the bride to have all of her bridal details ready when I arrive.
- The day before the wedding, I charge all of my batteries and make sure that all of my memory cards are in order and ready to go. I clean all of my equipment and pack my bags. I also print out the wedding questionnaire and download it on my phone to make sure that I have all of the information that I gathered.
Day of:
- I wake up early and make sure that everything is in order. If there are any remaining batteries on the charger, I pack them. Then I take my bags down to the car.
- I get dressed and do my hair and makeup to make sure that I look professional. This bullet point is definitely a post for another day! Stay tuned for that!
- Most people ask what people eat before a wedding. If I’m being honest, last year it was my routine to stop at ChickFila before every wedding. This year I’m going to try and be a little better behaved with my food choices!
- If my first stop for the day is the venue, I make sure to get there extra early to scout portrait locations. If I’m arriving at the bride’s getting ready spot, I still get there early but not quite as early!
Then of course, I photograph the wedding day! This is my favorite part… I have the best clients!
- During the wedding, most of the time I gather my second photographer’s images and load them onto my external hard drive. I also have them upload my images, from the memory cards I’m not using, onto my hard drive as well. This provides me with a backup at the wedding to make sure that none of my cards are corrupt!
After the wedding:
- I backup the images from my second photographer and my memory cards on my backup hard drive.
- I then begin culling (or sorting through) the images to figure out which images are going to be keepers. I cull these images into different folders: “Lauren’s Favorites”, “Preceremony”, “Ceremony”, “Family Formals”, “Wedding Party”, “Bride + Groom”, and “Reception”.
- I first edit the folder “Lauren’s Favorites” because that’s what I pull from for the blog post.
- After I edit, I prep and create the blog. I use Blogstomp to create images that are best size for my blog. In the post, link to all the vendors.
- Often I post a sneak peek of the wedding then on either Instagram and or Facebook. All of these things happen on the Monday after the wedding.
- Tuesday morning, the first wedding of the weekend goes on the blog. If I had a double header, Wednesday would be done doing the same thing as Monday was and that blog post would go up on Thursday.
- After I edit all of the images of each wedding, I upload them to PASS to be ready to share with my clients!
- If my client’s package included an album then we begin that process!
Phew! If you stuck with me for that long, please let me applaud you! Again, I hope this was helpful! I’m glad that we got to wrap up that little mini-series! If you have any other questions about workflow please shoot me an email!
