Today is a good day friends, because I am finally getting closer to sharing about our latest home reno project – our master bedroom! I’m also giving you a few tips for gathering your own inspiration for home projects!
In November we’ll have owned the Swann House for two years!! It’s crazy how fast the time has gone by, and the perfectionist in me has cased me to share only tiny snippets of our home updates. Well, I’ve decided – no more! After all progress is where the good stuff happens ;) So I promise I’ll be sharing more of our room transformations soon! Mostly, because I love to read about home updates, and I know you do too! I mean, what can beat a good before and after?
Anyway, I’m not quite ready to share the before and after of our bedroom just yet (mostly because it needs a good cleaning before I can photograph it ;) #RealTalk), but I am sharing how I chose the inspiration for our bedroom!
So, the first step of my process was to decide how I wanted our room to feel!
I knew I wanted it to be relaxing, bright, and soothing, but definitely not boring either! I have a tendency to choose all neutrals, but I love a good pop of color, too! So when I came across this Blakely Made print, I knew I had to have it! The gold detailing is incredible and I knew I had to have it! It was the perfect jumping off point for our room!
P.S. if that name sounds familiar to you, it’s probably because you’ve seen Blakely on the blog before: here & here!
The second step was to figure out the big pieces!
Obviously there’s a lot that goes into a bedroom design, but most important is figuring out furniture design. I needed to figure out which pieces we were going to keep, get rid of, purchase, and create!
For our bedroom, we created our own headboard, got rid of two dressers, and added a white desk that I use as a vanity! But by planning ahead about the big pieces, I also knew that we needed a better solution for our clothes which caused us to open up our closest a bit!
We also choose our rug as one of our first “big” things, too! It helps ground the room and so I knew I wanted that to be a priority!
Find fun accents!
This is my favorite part – but putting together all of the final details is the best part! Pillow covers, old books, plants, and frames – ahhh! Sourcing the fun accents to me is one of the best parts and I love mixing and matching!! This is your spot to add pops of colors and make a design not boring!
So there you have it friends! Three tips to gathering inspiration for your space!
And of course, I couldn’t leave you hanging without some of the sources for these pieces!
