from the heart

I’ve had a lot going on in my life in the last week, and I debated for a long time about how or if to write this post.  I finally decided to write it because this blog is for my business, but it’s also a journal of my life.  It’s a way that I can express myself.

Today, my office is a hospital room.  For those of you who don’t know, last Saturday right before the beautiful wedding I shot that was on the blog yesterday, my dad had a heart attack.  Since then I have more education on the heart, stents, and catheterization than I think the actor that played Dr. Burke on Grey’s Anatomy did.  Okay, maybe that’s an exaggeration, but maybe not too much of one (;

There’s something about sitting in a hospital room that makes you so thankful for life.  It makes you thankful for moments in life that are turning points, or just for moments at all.  Life is just too short.

People say that all the time.  Life is too short.  I think a lot of the time, we blow it off, and think no, there’s always tomorrow.  The only problem is that one day, there won’t be a tomorrow.  That’s the part that a lot of people leave out.  There can’t always be tomorrow.  So what in the world does this have to with photography and my business?

Well, I think what I’ve learned in these past fews days is how precious life is and the moments that we’re given.  I play such a significant role in the wedding day’s of my clients because I help provide them with physical evidence of those moments.  I play a role in helping parents remember their child’s senior year before they go off to college grow up too much.  I help engaged couples remember a season in their life that only comes once: a time of change and a time of joy.

So after the past week, I think I’ve learned to take my job more seriously (not that I didn’t before) but as I’m sitting here in this hospital, being thankful for the life I’ve been blessed to have, I’m also thankful for all the moments in life that have been slowed down to be captured by photograph.

Wife, mama, wielder of light & joy, and capturer of moments.  I thrive off of conversation and genuine connection.  In between wrangling our kiddos, and hanging my husband, you'll find me dreaming up my next idea or creative endeavour.  It's these things that culminate to give my imagery a warmth and joy to them - the greatest compliment I could receive.

THE JOURNAL

Lauren grew up spending her summers at the shore, and when she and Nick got together, she couldn't help but introduce him, too!  Their session in New Jersey was filled with gorgeous light, sweet smiles, and so much love & laughter.

Jersey Shore Engagement

Connor and Alli's wedding celebration was full of lush florals, gorgeous details, and a whole lot of joy.  Their first look was one of the most sacred moments I've witness on a wedding day... filled with so much delight and love!

One of my greatest inspirations comes from exploring and the California coast fulfills that wanderlust like nothing else.  Anytime I have rolling hills and oceanside views, I'm in heaven.

Nate & sofi, baltimore Maryland

She's the ultimate hypewoman. I was pretty nervous about being photographed and Lauren made everything fun and flexible. Honestly, I can't imagine the day without her and her team. They were wonderful and hearing from Lauren was always a genuine delight.
