I have gotten quite a few inquiries lately about what lenses you should get when starting your own business.  Well first of all you should know that I personally only shoot with prime lenses.  These are lenses that are fixed at one focal length (they don’t zoom in or out) and they can open up to a really wide aperture and let a ton of light in.  This is super useful during a wedding day because sometimes in churches you are unable to use flash and it can be pretty dark too.

So the first lens I would recommend is the 50mm.  It’s an inexpensive lens that works great!  When I was first starting out, it’s about the only thing that I did shoot with.  It’s a great lens and it’s super versatile.  If you already have the 50mm and are looking for a new one, I’d recommend my favorite: the 85mm.  It creates really beautiful compression.
