Well friends, today’s post is the second to last post from the North Island portion of our trip and it includes one of my absolute favorite days of the whole adventure: Waiheke Island. When my brother-in-law heard about the trip to New Zealand, he reached out to a friend of his to get recommendations for us on what to see and do! Most of our itinerary was already planned, but we did have one free day on the North Island. We took Chad’s recommendation (you’ll meet him officially on Tuesday) and what started as just a few of us, sent everyone to the ferry to cross over to Waiheke Island.
Because I had a shoot later that day, Renee and I headed over on the morning ferry so that we could have plenty of time to explore. When we arrived we found someone who worked at the entertainment stand, and asked him what we should do there. He informed us that we could either take the bus and see about half of the island or we could split the cost of a rental car and explore the whole island. After heeding his warning of just a “few” dirt roads, we decided to take his advice and set off for Man O’ War Bay.
Well it turns out that there are more than just a few dirt roads on the second half of the island… Renee and I certainly had fun shaking along as we drove through the hilly countryside. The views along the drive though were absolutely breathtaking… one side of the road was full of rolling hills full of sheep/vineyards while the other gave way to beautiful Mediterranean-like waters. I think you’ll see what I mean!
Waiheke Island Recommendations
Eats: Man O’ War Vineyard, Passion Rock Vineyard, & The Island Gelato Company. I personally recommend the pear, cheese, & bread pairing, the margarita pizza, & the passion fruit gelato!
Do: Rent a Car, See the Sites, Photograph your friend on a tree on the beach, hang with the cows and sheep.
Our last day on the North Island was spent at Cathedral Cove, and iconic view of New Zealand. It was nice to have a beach day and to enjoy the last of our views of that beautiful blue ocean. Plus, there were some rocks to swim out to and dive off! That certainly made a typical beach day a bit more excitement! Because we mostly relaxed that day, I just have a few images to share, but I hope you enjoy!
Up next, exploring the city of Auckland with the sweetest couple, and then I get to share my favorite part… the South Island. Happy Thursday, friend!
Lauren — you are the bombdiggity.com! I had so much fun exploring Wahieke with you!! Thanks for being the best driver ever + being an amazing friend!
