We got married in the field at his grandparents’ farm, solidifying it as forever one of my favorite places and one of my best days.
This year for Mother’s Day, I wanted to sneak off and take some family photos there. My crew in a little slice of heaven on Earth. I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the eve of our 12th anniversary than squeezing in a few photos of just the two of us, too.
Your wedding day is special… never again in your life will you be surrounded by all of those same people.
Because—
- Some of them you don’t do life with anymore due to fractured relationships or moves.
- Some of the people who you’re closest to now, you hadn’t even met when you got married.
- Some of the people aren’t here with us earth-side anymore, which feels impossible.
I think that’s why all these years later, that day hasn’t lost it’s vibrancy in my head. We were so lucky to have been surrounded by the people who promised to help us keep showing up and saying I do to one another.
… and somehow that day was twelve whole years ago.
We’ve lived a whole lot of life since then.. and it has been the greatest adventure.
Being married to Morgan is one of the greatest gifts I’ve been given, and one I never would have known I needed.
He makes me a better person, pushes me to achieve what we want to achieve, and is the best partner in this whole raising-tiny-humans-gig.
In fact, I’ve been thinking a lot lately about our wedding and all that planning that led up to it.
One of the dreams we had for our day was that our ceremony site would be backdropped with beautiful daffodils surrounding the arch Morgan made. He carefully selected the varieties and meticulously planted the bulbs. He worked so hard to make that dream of mine come to life.
Eventually the deer managed to ransack our big plans, but the picture of Morgan showing up, serving, and making my crazy dreams come to life still rings true. I chose well when it came to this guy!
In fact he planned pretty much the perfect weekend for me.
Not only did we celebrate Mother’s Day with some family photos at the place we first met, but I was spoiled by the kids, too.
Sushi for dinner, plants picked out with care, and some Scandinavian Swimmers (my favorite!), delivered in a parade to me on Sunday morning… it was perfectly orchestrated by a guy I’m lucky enough to have love me.
I wouldn’t trade this life for the world. Grateful for 12 years married (on the 12th! Does that make this our golden anniversary!?)
xx

Happy Monday!
