One of things I’ve loved about this year is that I’ve been pushing and doing a lot of things in new ways. I’m discovering what I love and not necessarily what everyone else does. When I have creative license it feels so amazing and my work shows my passion. One thing that I’ve been working on this year is simply being a curator of my images for the blog. When I was first getting started, I was so desperate to show off that I had actually shot a wedding that I hardly even checked the quality of the images. Okay, maybe that’s an understatement… I definitely checked the quality but if an image was just a little bit off, I was okay with displaying it.
These days I find myself drawn solely to the images that tell the story of the day. I don’t need to show every single part of the day in order to give my clients the highlights. Instead, if I curate the images in a way that almost looks like you’re opening up a simple, virtual album, it gives off the type of vibe I want my clients to feel.
I’ve been learning all of these things through my album designing and second shooting. Having the opportunity to work with a number of incredibly talented photographers has helped me to realize that sometimes quality is way better than quantity when it comes to images. Designing albums this year has helped me to curate my images even as I’m shooting them… creating a highlight reel from the start, and of course capturing everything in between.
I’m not perfect at this by any means. You all know it if you’ve ever read some of my wedding posts… they’re still probably a little too long sometimes, but that’s okay! The point of this is not for everyone else. It’s for my clients and me, and that’s it!
I just wrote a very similar post on Tuesday! It’s so easy to worry about other people…when the only one’s that really matter are our clients and our own growth!
It’s awesome that you’ve given yourself that freedom!! Great minds think alike I guess! (:
