The First Image I was Ever Proud of

Allow me for a moment (or few) to walk down memory lane.  It was September of 2012 and I was off to photograph my first wedding as a second photographer.  I had the honor and privilege of shooting alongside my sweet friend, Jilly Powers.  My bags were packed and my heart was so excited for a new adventure.  I can still remember the nervous energy and excitement I felt as I pulled up to the house where we would begin photographing the girls getting ready.  I arrived and photographed my soul off.  I shot twice or three times as many shots as I should have and if I’m honest most of them were not great!  To top it off, at the very beginning of the reception, my camera battery died and I was so embarrassed that as soon as I got home that night I ordered two extra batteries! I learned a lot of things that day, but one of the most important things I started the process of was discerning my style.  You see for those hundreds of photos I shot, there were only a few that I actually liked.  If I’m being honest, there was only really one that I was proud of.  Folks, for me, that’s all it took.  One image said, okay, maybe you can do this afterall.  So often we get caught up in the 700 that say we can’t, that we forget about the one that says we can.  If you’re pursuing your dream, don’t let them tell you no, just listen for the one opportunity that tells you yes!  Happy Thursday, friends!

Lauren!! I love this post!! (and this image!) After shooting my first wedding in 2 years this past weekend I realized how hard we can be on ourselves for all the shots that aren’t “portfolio worthy” but each frame helps us get to the point where we want to be! Thank you for sharing!

Wife, mama, wielder of light & joy, and capturer of moments.  I thrive off of conversation and genuine connection.  In between wrangling our kiddos, and hanging my husband, you'll find me dreaming up my next idea or creative endeavour.  It's these things that culminate to give my imagery a warmth and joy to them - the greatest compliment I could receive.

THE JOURNAL

Lauren grew up spending her summers at the shore, and when she and Nick got together, she couldn't help but introduce him, too!  Their session in New Jersey was filled with gorgeous light, sweet smiles, and so much love & laughter.

Connor and Alli's wedding celebration was full of lush florals, gorgeous details, and a whole lot of joy.  Their first look was one of the most sacred moments I've witness on a wedding day... filled with so much delight and love!

One of my greatest inspirations comes from exploring and the California coast fulfills that wanderlust like nothing else.  Anytime I have rolling hills and oceanside views, I'm in heaven.

She's the ultimate hypewoman. I was pretty nervous about being photographed and Lauren made everything fun and flexible. Honestly, I can't imagine the day without her and her team. They were wonderful and hearing from Lauren was always a genuine delight.
