Recently, someone said to me, “You’ve been to a lot of weddings before… do you have your favorite traditions from what you’ve seen?” And the answer is yes! I figured since, ya know, I am a wedding photographer that it would be fun to share some of my five favorite details/things about weddings!! Plus, the last couple posts I’ve written have been sad and heavy, and typically, that’s just not me! Typically I am upbeat and positive, so let’s make our way back to that!! Anyway, enjoy my favorite things about weddings!!
1. The veil. I am obsessed with either a long flowy veil or else a birdcage veil. These two are my favorites on brides, and they look fabulous in photographs.
2. Lace dresses. Anything lace, I am in love with. There’s something about a bride in a lace dress. It’s incredibly classic and beautiful.
3. Large bridal parties. Usually as photographers, we don’t love large bridal parties purely for the reason that it takes a long time for portraits and it cuts into our bride and groom time. I know, selfish, right? But the truth is, I LOVE large bridal parties! I get to work with some of the people who love the bride and groom most, and as far as I’m concerned, the more the merrier!!
4. When the couple writes their own vows/uses unique traditions during their ceremony. One of my favorite things that has happened in the weddings I’ve shot this year (so far) is when Andy + Amy’s friend read a “poem” to everyone. It turned out to be Oh the Place You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss customized for Andy + Amy’s story!! It was so sweet and so funny!!
5. Beautiful stationary. You all know how much I love calligraphy, and so beautiful stationary and invitations are my favorite.
