Why Watching a Romantic Comedy Could Help Your Posing

Let’s be real –  you clicked this link because you really needed to convince your husband that you were actually working when he walked in on you watching You’ve Got Mail yesterday, right?

Well I’m glad you’re here anyway because today I’m talking about one thing you can do to help step up your posing game for your couples.

Think about it – in any romantic comedy, what is the job of the actors/directors?  To make the lead couple feel like a real couple! That means that they’re super intentional about how a couple interacts!  You’ll see things like holding hands, the way they embrace, they way the enter a room and greet each other, they way he softly brings her in tight and kisses her on the forehead… the list goes on and on!

What does that have to do with you? Well, have you ever pulled up to an engagement session and had a total mental block?! Like, you quickly research a few poses on Pinterest that you can instruct (read: force) a couple into? That sounds totally candid and normal… right?

Well the truth is – most couples want photos that are a romantic portrayal of them … they just usually need a little help getting there!  That’s where your job comes in!

I think that if you’re trying to learn about natural poses – why not learn from the pros?  Actors and actresses are trained regularly about how to build chemistry with one another, and that’s exactly what you want to do for your couples.  The good news is –  your bride and groom aren’t complete strangers, so they already have a natural working chemistry!

There’s only one tiny problem – we know that RomComs can also provide some inspiration that is a little less than natural.  For example, the foot pop anyone? Thanks to Betty Boop and Amelia Thermopolis Renaldi, people think that at the end of a kiss your foot should pop.  But has that ever happened naturally for a couple you’ve worked with before? I’m not thinking so ;)

As you’re screening your favorite flick, AKA Sweet Home Alabama, be sure to take notes of which poses are natural and which are not:

Yay

Walking and Holding Hands

Touching foreheads together

Sometimes giving a piggy back ride!

Nay

Lifting Baby in Dirty Dancing

The Famous Foot pop in Princess Diaries

Making Out – well, this might be real, but probably not when someone else around, so let’s skip this pose shall we ;)

Anyway, I think you catch my drift! Watching your favorite romantic comedy is an easy way to also do some research on how to post your couples!  … Just so long as you keep some of those poses in the corner! Amiright?

Happy Friday, friends!

She's the ultimate hypewoman. I was pretty nervous about being photographed and Lauren made everything fun and flexible. Honestly, I can't imagine the day without her and her team. They were wonderful and hearing from Lauren was always a genuine delight.
