The first time I picked up my DSLR, I was hooked. Capturing anything and everything (no seriously, I started my photography journey by posting a picture-a-day for a challenge where I shot *everything*).
... I was mesmerized by the way the camera could freeze a moment in time, the joy in their expression, just the way I saw it.
And then I thought something crazy...
Can anyone relate?!
It was leading up to my freshman year of college that this crazy dream of mine started to shift towards more of a possibility.
I did what anyone would do -- I started a Facebook page, forced my sisters and roommates to model for me, and hoped and prayed that people would notice!
Thankfully, they did! I had people asking me to photograph their families, senior portraits, engagement photos, and even a wedding!
I had a lot to learn in both honing in on my craft AND learning how to run a business, too! I was a little overwhelmed and didn't know where to start. So I obviously consulted the ever powerful Google and searched away, only to feel a little lost and like there had to be an easier way. There had to be a way to get real answers from *actual* photographers without having to email them directly... that's too intimidating!
I was too scared that I'd be judged, that I wouldn't be taken seriously, and that I would harm the tiny business reputation that I was building. This choice was a transformative one in my business and helped me set up so that I could start pursuing my dream.
The information I gleaned about systems, posing, business, marketing, and more, helped me to book weddings, create work I'm proud of, and serve some incredible clients! I didn't have to start from scratch on either the business or creative side (PHEW!) ... and neither do you!
It's because of the fruit that I saw from mentoring relationships in my own business, that my desire to create a tailored mentorship experience came from. I know that I'm not the only one that needed a kick-start in my business, and that's how I LOVE to serve my mentees.
I get it. Mentorship and investing in your business can be tricky! When you're just starting out you're just trying to save for the equipment you need, figure out taxes, and try to book some clients to pay for it all!
I ran my business entirely debt free and have felt so much freedom from that, and I would never want to put you in a place that jeopardizes your finances.
As much as I believe in helping you in specific and tangible ways in your business (I like to be the Joanna Gaines to your business -- I can be a bit of a fixer here), I also have a heart for serving our creative community as a whole.
