Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland Part II of Our #ItzandSwitz Adventures

The Ultimate Travel Guide for Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland by Fine Art Destination Wedding Photographer Lauren R Swann

Okay, Okay… I know what you’re thinking… it’s been a whole month since you’ve been on your #ItzandSwitz trip, WHERE ARE YOUR Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland pictures?! Well, to be honest, I haven’t wanted to edit them yet.  Not because I don’t love them or wasn’t looking forward to it, but because it means that in my mind, it’s officially over.

We have so many funny stories from the Lauterbrunnen region of Switzerland that it’s impossible to share them all here… I would bore you to tears! In fact, just this morning, Josh texted our #ItzandSwitz group text with a picture, asking if he was headed to Mürren.  For those of you who missed the story, Mürren was the town that we hiked all the way around by accident, and probably should have listened to the basic physics equation, what must go up must also come down.

We hiked 13.5 miles that day, most of which was uphill…

So for this fun post, I figured I would give you a little snippet into where we stayed, our favorite things that we did (hint, most of it was hiking), and the photos that made hiking 13.5 miles mostly uphill totally worth it!

Where we stayed:

We rented a little AirBnB in the quaint, no-cars, city of Wengen that sits towards the top of the Lauterbrunnen Valley.  It was the perfect spot for us because it was a beautiful town to explore, but also give us pretty easy access to go up the mountain and hike down to the valley.

What we did:

We hiked to the little town of Kleine Scheidegg, the town of Mürren, through the valley of Lauterbrunnen to waterfalls and more.  The boys also spent part of a day mountain biking while Elizabeth and I went and sat by the pool!

The one paid excursion that we did in Switzerland was also going Canyoning in Interlaken.  This was so fun and totally worth it… bad photoshop job and all ;)  We were in wetsuits, traveling down the river repelling down rocks, traveling under waterfalls, jumping off cliffs, and sliding down river rocks! … it was as legit as it sounds!

One thing I didn’t know…

When we were thinking about food for on the trip, we knew that Switzerland was expensive, so for the most part we planned to eat in.  However, what I was surprised by was the fact that there really wasn’t a super “traditional Switz dish” (at least as far as we could see) at most restaurants.  The closest thing we had was on our first day in, we had fondue and one of the boys had a hash brown and meat thing.

Other than that, most restaurants actually offered pizza or Asian cuisine instead, likely because it was what tourists wanted?  Either way, I know that one night for dinner I had Mexican pizza with avocado on it, and that pretty much sealed the deal that I would be 100% fine with staying there for an extended period of time!

Best food…

Just ask Elizabeth, but hands down, our favorite food was the Swiss Sorbet and chocolates we ate!  (I know you’re all surprised that we loved the dessert ;) )  We may or may not have looked up where the closest Movenpick dealer is online to see if we could have some shipped here – its that good!

Most impressed by…

One thing in particular that I loved about where we stayed in the Valley was just how clean it was and how friendly everyone was! Most of the people who worked in the towns weren’t locals, but were in town seeking extreme adventure sports (like our friend from the bar who was a pretty legit base-jumper).  It made it fun to gather recommendations that were the perfect mix of local and touristy enough that we could do it!

Most photographed…

The set of mountains that we could see from pretty much everywhere we went.  They were just framed so perfectly… I couldn’t help myself!  Though everyone was a little less than impressed that I kept photographing “my favorite mountain”!

Basically, if anyone wants to hire me to shoot their wedding in the Lauterbrunnen region, I’M IN! I’d go back in a heartbeat and I know Morgan is scheming as to how we can get back there for ski season!
