A New Journey & Keepin' It Real Along the Way

My Dearest Internet, I need your help!

(Spoiler alert… I’m starting a capsule wardrobe, but we’ll get to that in a minute!)

You see, I have what one would call a shopping problem.  Like actually.

I’ve been pretending for a while that it didn’t matter, but in an effort to be more honest with myself, I’ve realized lately that there are entirely too many times where I’ve been selfish and bought things in an attempt to mask how I was really feeling – whether its been loneliness, insecurity, boredom, or a full range of emotions – you name it.  But if you’ve ever struggled with the same thing, you know that the feeling you get when something new arrives, wears off quickly…

The backlash of this problem has been far from satisfying and even typing this now doesn’t feel quite like I’m doing it justice.

… You may be wondering why I’m telling you this in the first place.  I mean to be honest, it’s really embarrassing to admit!  But one thing I know for sure is that if I am going to seek change, I need accountability, and for whatever reason, this little blog has served as the accountability I’ve needed in the past to break some bad habits (IE, that time I quit social media-ing after 9pm for 4 months).  It serves as a place for me to post consistently, to check in on my progress, create a tangible game plan, and to have the eyes of the internet on it all!

As I’m trying to kickstart a journey to healthiness, not just physically but mentally too, this specific (horrible) habit has been a big blockage for me!  I think my worst area of shopping for myself is definitely in the clothing department, and beginning to be disciplined there will help to create a major reality check on my heart.

Which is why I’m officially starting a Capsule Wardrobe!

Now, to be honest, the whole capsule wardrobe thing seems like such a fad right now, but I’ve been following along with (and silently cheering on), one of the first to explore this option, since the beginning of her journey!  Caroline’s desire to love the clothing that she has and to quit making the excuses of “I don’t have anything to wear as a means for buying more has always resonated with me!

So I don’t know what this looks like just yet… I know that I’ll be using some of the basics of her capsule planning tools and 100% using the clothes already existing in my closet.  Establishing the rules of it all will come slowly, but I promise to share about that in a later post.

For now, I just want to say thank you in advance! When you read these posts, send me emails, leave comments about them, and cheer me on, it means the world to me! So if you want to follow along the journey, I’ll be posting over on my existing hashtag #LaurenWears and on the blog coming soon!

So cute Lauren! Good luck on this adventure! I feel like I need to get healthier before I invest in clothes for myself (good on you for using what you already have). I’m all about that minimalism, but I also want clothes that I really love, and I’m not really loving the clothes I have now. PS: I love those loafers.

She's the ultimate hypewoman. I was pretty nervous about being photographed and Lauren made everything fun and flexible. Honestly, I can't imagine the day without her and her team. They were wonderful and hearing from Lauren was always a genuine delight.
